Getting to know about Fairway Woods
In the beginning, woods were actually constructed entirely of solid wood. These clubs were designed for long distance shots. Golf drivers and fairway woods are both woods but they are categorized differently. The golf driver, also known as the one wood, is designed to hit the ball off the tee and will drive the ball farther than any other club. Occasionally, the driver can hit the ball from the fairway but that is not recommended because that requires a great deal of skill and a decent lie. Believe it or not, there exists a #2 fairway wood, also known as the Minnie Driver. The #2 wood is a rare club event though it has a very catchy nickname.
The rest of the woods are known as fairway woods. These clubs were designed to give you greater distance on the fairway. There are two primary features built into fairway woods. First is the shallow face height which enables solid strikes from the ground. The second feature is a higher loft to launch the ball over minor obstructions. You can use woods off the tee, through a hazard, laying up for a dogleg or anything on the fairway. Fairway woods range from the driver to a nine wood, however; a most golfers carry a three and a five wood.
