Fairway wood or an iron, why not both?
Hybrid golf clubs are one of the newest golf clubs to hit the golf course. They possess the advantages of both the fairway woods and an iron. Long irons have a small face and low trajectory so they are usually difficult to hit, hybrids were meant to replace them. Golfers usually choose fairway woods instead of long irons but the long shafts of the fairway woods make them more difficult to swing and harder to master. Clubs with long shafts require more room for a decent swing so it makes woods harder to use to punch out of the rough or under a tree. The head of a fairway wood is also designed to skim along tall grass, not to cut through it. Hybrid golf clubs resolve all of these problems. Hybrids have a head that resembles a fairway wood and a shaft the length of a mid iron. They are used for difficult long shots out from the rough where irons are typically used. They lack the speed of the typical fairway wood, however; they can be used as direct replacements. Their reliability has also given them the name of “rescue clubs”.
